Ferrari Challenge 2011
I have missed the Ferrari Challenge every year since I started going to Infineon Raceway in 2007. However, this year I was on top of the schedule, and I scooped up some tickets with the quickness!
I like going to the lesser known events at Infineon Raceway. When the track is empty I can roam around with out much hassle. Although, for this event, I brought my family along just for sh*ts and giggles. We haven't spent much time together lately, and I thought a quiet day at the track would be cool!
My plan was to take a few shots and enjoy the sights and sounds of the race cars with the Fam Bam. I wanted to spend more time enjoying the action than taking pictures.
I brought the D300s with Sigma 70-200/2.8, and the D40X with Nikon's 35/1.8 DX lens. The Tele-zoom was for the racing action, and the 35mm was for the rest. I tried a panorama (shown above), but part of the image was out of focus (which I didn't discover until at the computer, naturally). That's what I get for rushing the shot. I took about 12 images from right to left and about 170 degrees. The D40X was set to f16 and was on aperture priority.
My favorite image was the panning shot shown above right. I like the color of the Ferrari, and the effect from the "Direct Positive" preset in Lightroom 2 gave it a look that was appealing to me. A slight vignette helps to complete the image in my opinion.
I didn't stay as long as I would have liked (Momma was getting antsy), but I still had fun this weekend. Next year, I'll spend a little more time and get more racing action. Furthermore, I'd like to take more shots in the garage areas. The details behind the scenes are what I often miss because I'm busy chasing the perfect panning shot!
