Nikon D300s: High ISO Performance
While on a flight to Florida I took the picture shown above. The image was shot at 1/10 sec., f/3.5, ISO 3200, and taken with a Nikon D300s
. There's a noticeable amount of noise, but for such a high ISO, it's not too bad. Furthermore, no noise reduction software was used on the image.
I'm not the pixel-peeping type of photographer, but every once in a while I like to push my camera to the limit. High ISO performance is a spec that I consider important when choosing a camera. That's why so many amateur photographers are eye-balling the Nikon D700 (or its future replacement) because of the astounding results produced by a full-frame sensor.
For now, my D300s is good enough for the work that I produce. I'm now at a point in my photographic life where I'm not that concerned with getting the latest and greatest gear. What I am concerned with is producing quality images that can move a person emotionally or tell a story. In my opinion, an image that is technically bad, but tells a story, is far superior to a technically sound image that says nothing.
