Kata DB-455

Kata DB-455

The camera bag that I currently use is the Tamrac Velocity 10X .  I like the Tamrac bag, but it's a bit bulky for walk around use.  The bag alone weighs 3 pounds, so by the time I fill it up with gear it quickly becomes a serious load.  I can pack my D300s (with 35/1.8), D40 (with 18-55 kit lens), D40X(with 70-200/2.8), two Vivitar 285HV's, and a Cybersync trigger with two remotes.  That's cool for getting to the location, but one wouldn't want to walk more than a few feet carrying all of that weight.  I needed a bag suitable for walk around use once on location.  After searching the net for a while I came upon KATA's Digital Bag DB-455

Here's a brief description from Kata's website:

KATA's Digital Bag DB-455, part of the Digital Photo Series (DPS), is a satchel type bag which features unique TST RIB structural protection, a designated padded laptop compartment and a DSLR camera insert.  This bag is great for everyday use also when not carrying a camera as the spacious main compartment can be used with or without the camera insert.  Additional pockets include: one large external pocket which allows quick zippered access to the essentials stored in the organizer panel within and two flexible Elasto-Guard side pockets for a water bottle as well as additional accessories.

For use with only one camera, and maybe a flash, the Kata bag is perfect.   The DB-455 has enough room for the D300s with MB-D10 battery pack, so the D40 is no problem.  Although, the D300s with grip won't fit into the removable bag while it's zipped up.  That's fine since there's more than enough room for what I need.

Gecko Shoulder Strap

After receiving the bag I purchased Kata's Gecko Shoulder Strap .  The Gecko Shoulder Strap features a unique suction-shaped grip that aligns the undercarriage of the strap to prevent any kind of slipping while aeration slots make sure air circulates between the strap and your shoulder for cooling.  I have to wait a while to receive the strap, but I'm sure it will make my shoulders happy!
