Photo Projects
I have to admit, I don't shoot nearly as much as I would like. So, inspired by Thomas Hawk, I decided to start a photo project. Thomas' goal is to shoot, and publish, one million photos before he dies. That's a rather lofty goal for me, so I decided to chase a goal that's a little less daunting. I'm going to try to publish at least one shot a day.
Besides being inspired by Mr. Hawk, I had been yearning to shoot more often. Right about the time that I was ready to give my camera a workout, my boss informed us that we would be working "mandantory" 60-hour work weeks (Monday through Saturday from 6a-4:30p). I was pretty bummed, but mostly because that meant that I wouldn't get to shoot that often. This may not sound like much of a problem, but what compounds the matter is that I have a 60 mile commute. My normal commute takes about an 80 minutes. But, when I leave at 4:30, that travel time doubles. This doesn't leave me much time for shooting to say the least.
The good that comes out of all of this is that it forced me to take the time to stop on the way home and take some shots. I figured that since I'll be stuck in traffic anyway, I might as well bring the D40's and put 'em to work. I started this last Monday (8/3), and I'll finish my first work week today. I'm fearful that I may not finish, but that's normal when chasing a difficult challenge. That's why I'm blogging about it, and telling everyone at work, so that I'll be forced to finish!
