Testing Gear at a Test Session
This week I had the opportunity to test my Sigma 70-200/2.8 for the first time since the warranty repair. I haven't really put the lens to the test, except for a quick shoot with a model. So what better place to give it a go than the AMA Pro Road Racing Test Session at Infineon Raceway. The riders tested their bikes in preparation for the Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown, at Infineon Raceway - May 15-19th(I'll be there!). At the same time I was testing out my "new" lens(I say new because I haven't used it much).
I was impressed with the AF when compared to my old lens - the Nikon 55-200VR. It was a lot faster, but I miss the VR feature of Nikon lens. I noticed my panning shots were more successful when compa red to the "slow" 55-200. The only drawback is carrying this huge lens(about 3 pounds), two bodies(Nikon D40 & D40X), SB-600, and accessories. My bag alone weighs 3 pounds - The Tamrac Velocity 10X Pro Sling Pack.
In conclusion, I thought Sigma did a very good job repairing the lens. I'm looking forward to shooting next month's race. I didn't stay at the test session very long. So, it only wetted my appetite for goodracing shots. The only problem is that May 15th can't come fast enough!
