New Coolpix Cameras from Nikon
Nikon unveiled eight new Coolpix cameras this week. At $400, the Coolpix P90 (right) is the megazoom model, offering a 24mm to 624mm, 24X optical zoom Nikkor lens. It's scheduled to show up in stores in April. Nikon says that the Coolpix P90 features the same Nikkor ED glass found in the company's digital SLR cameras. Other Coolpix models introduced were the L100, S630, S620. Nikon also released a few sub-$200 compacts; the S230, S220, L19, and L20.
I really don't follow the compact camera market much, but lately I've peaked at a few point and shoots. Currently, I own the Nikon D40 which is fairly small. Although, I would like to have a camera that can fit into my pocket.
At $150, the ultracompact 10-megapixel Coolpix S220 (left) is just 18 millimeters thick. It has a 3X optical zoom (35mm to 105mm) lens and comes in five color choices: black, blue, plum, magenta, and green. It's slated for availability in March.
The red, 10-megapixel Coolpix L20 (right) will be available for $130 starting in March; it serves up a 3-inch LCD screen, automatic scene selection, in-camera image effects, and a 3.6X optical zoom (38mm to 136mm) lens.
All the new additions to the Coolpix lineup will hit stores in March and April of this year. For more information on the Coolpix, check out Nikon's website.
