Nikon D5000 - The D40 Replacement?

There's a rumor that Nikon plans to announce a new camera to replace the D40. The new model will be dubbed the D5000, and would be an entry-level DSLR. With PMA coming soon (March 3, 2009) we'll know for sure.

The D5000 may have a D40-sized body with a D90/D300 class sensor. That would be cool, because the image quality would be comparable to the D3.

The D5000 may be available sometime in early April '09. The price will probably be around $649US. That's good news for those in the market for an entry-level DSLR.
