onOne's DSLR Camera Remote pt. 2
I recently purchased onOne's DSLR Camera Remote for my iPod Touch. I was excited and anxious to try some self-portraits using my iPod as a remote. I then loaded the software, plugged my D40 into the computer, ran the software on my iPod and...nothing. The application wouldn't start up on my computer.
I went to onOne's website for help with the install. The troubleshooting section stated that I should uninstall it, restart the computer, and reinstall the software. I tried that like five times. I kept getting the message "...side-by-side configuration is incorrect, check event log". How in the hell can I check the log when I can't even open the damn software! Obviously, I was extremely pissed off.
The next day I looked deeper to resolve the problem. So, I went back to onOne's website for further investigation. What I didn't pay attention to previously was the fact that the software needed Service Pack 2 to run correctly. I'm running Windows Vista and I haven't updated the damn thing since January(I turned off Auto Update). So, I went to Microsoft's website to download SP2. The update was available, but it was in ISO format, meaning that I would have to burn it on a DVD to install it. Four hours later, the download was complete. I promptly burned the disc and tried to install it. To my surprise the install wizard said that I needed SP1.
On day three, I downloaded SP1 and proceeded to install the update. One hour later, I installed SP2. Now, I'm in business right...wrong. Now, the software would load, but it couldn't find the camera. Apparently, when I updated my computer, the driver was lost. Naturally, I can't find the disk that came with the camera, and I couldn't find one on the internet.
So, I'm stilll stuck at this point. I was too exhausted to continue to troubleshoot, so I hit the sack. I'm going to give it a go one more time. I'll look for the disc, try again to find a driver on the net, and seek out help on forums. As soon as I figure it out, I'll post the results. Wish me luck!

I found your post after many, many searches and keyword variations. It was worth finding, because you described the problem I had. I have spent this Saturday going through the updates (I missed out on a near 70 degree day in Chicago - @*$*@&!), but it was worth it for my iPod to finally find my laptop.
I had a support email into OnOne. I will respond back to them that they should make more prominent the need to make sure you are running the latest version of your op system when installing the server portion. I found a bunch of posts like yours, but no one got as far as you did. And YOUR solution WORKS!!!!
This software works as advertised! I have a Canon D30, and I am going to enjoy many shoots untethered farther from the camera than a remote cord could allow, or camera placements that are not practical without a remote of distance. Other triggers are good, but until they offer the features of this baby, they'll always be second class.
Thanks,
Rod
I'm glad that you found my post to be useful! Would you believe that I STILL can't get my camera to show up. I can see that Windows recognized it, but the onOne software still can't find the camera. I've been too busy and pissed off to mess with it. Your success story has inspired me to give it another shot.
I noticed that there's a Service Pack 3 available. I'm going to give that a try.
