Tamron's Macro Focuses On The D40/60!

Tamron has updated an already respectable lens, the SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 (Model 272E). It's price, around $400, makes this an attractive alternative to the Nikon 105mm. But, the thing that's grabs my attention is that the Tamron focuses on my D40. I'm particulary excited about this lens because I plan to do some macro photography.

I've considered several lenses and was leaning towards the Nikon 105mm VR. From the images I've seen, this appears to be a great lens. The only problem for me is the price - about $800. I also looked at the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG. The Sigma is priced right around my budget for a macro - about $400. The problem is it doesn't AF on the D40. If I got desparate, and I had the cash, I might have picked up the Sigma. Eventually, I'd have a Nikon camera with a AF motor, and I'd be able to fully utilize the Sigma.

And then I found the Tamron. This would be a great pick-up for me. I don't know much about the image quality, I'll have to research some more. It is a respectable lens that's been loved by many for quite some time. If you're in the market for a macro, and you have a D40/60, this might be a good choice. But, if you have the money, the Nikon would be a great addition. For me, I'll be getting the Tamron. It'll make a great macro lens, as well as a portrait lens.
