Canon Powershot G10

Canon has released the Powershot G10. It's a top range compact digital camera and will be priced at around $500. The G10 replaces the well-respected Powershot G9.

I own a compact , but I don't use it very often. The noise at a relatively low ISO is just terrible, and I don't like the "shutter lag". The other thing I don't like is the lack of a viewfinder. So, in other words, I don't like compacts.

Then, I heard about the G9. A lot of amatuers really like the G9 because it is said to have great image quality, with not a lot of noise. The G9 also has a hot shoe, and can take additional lenses as well as waterproof housings. I had been considering the G9 because I would like something that I can throw in a pocket and go. My D40 is small, only 16 ounces without the battery, but it still can't fit in a pocket. I have to bring my small camera bag to hold the camera, another lens (18-55 or 55-200, whichever's not in use), and my SB-600 strobe.

Now Canon introduces the G10. I won't be getting the camera anytime soon. But, as I've said before, I like to stay behind the technology curve. That way the price will be substantially lower. But the G10 has some greatly improved upon features. They include:

  • 14.7 Megapixel sensor
  • 5X zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer plus 28mm lens
  • DIGIC 4 Image Processor
  • Shoots RAW, JPEG, plus RAW+JPEG
  • Large 3.0 inch LCD II (460,000 dots/VGA)
  • ISO to 1600
  • 16:9 Widescreen

There are many more features that I'm not going to list. For more info check out Canon's website.
