The D90 Is Here!
Finally, after months of rumors the Nikon D90 has been introduced. The price is $999 (body only), or $1299 with the 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens. I am a little excited about this because I have been considering a new camera. I use the D40 but would like to upgrade to something with faster FPS, and the ability to accept fast primes. The D90 isn't that much faster, so I'm not yet convinced that I want this camera. It has Live View, and there is high quality video as well. Here are some of the specs:
Sensor: 12.3 Megapixels (23.6 x 15.8mm CCD)
Shutter Speed: 30 - 1/4000 sec.
ISO sensitivity: 100 to 6400
Burst mode: 4.5 fps
Image formats: JPEG, RAW, Up to 4288x2848 Pixels
Video Format: MJPEG, 720p @ 24 fps
This is a nice camera that fits between the entry-level Nikons like the D40/x, D60 and the intermediate level camera the D300. Even if I don't get the D90, it will open up other possibilities. For instance, the D80 will get even cheaper. The D200 is also cheaper now, but for the price the D90 might be a better option.
